How does the tool work? +

The tool allows you to either upload an image or take a photo directly using your mobile device's camera. The text in the image—whether printed or handwritten—is automatically recognized and then read aloud. Simply capture or upload the image, and the tool takes care of the rest automatically.

Which file formats are supported? +

You can use common image formats such as JPG or PNG. Simply upload an image containing text—the tool recognizes the text regardless of the file format. It's important that the image quality is sufficient to ensure optimal text recognition.

How can I have the text read aloud to me? +

Once you've uploaded an image, the tool automatically begins the text recognition process. As soon as the text is successfully recognized, a play or read-aloud button will appear. Click on this button (often indicated by a speaker or play icon), and the extracted text will be read aloud through your speakers or headphones. You can pause and resume playback at any time if you need a break.

Are my images saved? +

How exactly does the tool work? +

You can either upload an existing image or take a photo directly using your phone's camera. The tool automatically detects text and highlights recognized text areas. Clicking on a highlighted text section opens it in a large, easily readable font size. You can also manually adjust the font size as needed.

Are handwritten texts recognized? +

Yes, the tool recognizes both printed and handwritten texts, provided the handwriting is sufficiently clear. Ensure good image quality to achieve optimal results.

What does the Translator tool do? +

My Archive (Save & View Documents)
What is "My Library," and what can I use it for? +

"My Archive" allows you to permanently save documents, audio files, and bookmarks. Uploaded files are always available and can be conveniently viewed and read aloud using the integrated viewer.

Which file formats does "My Library" support? +

Common formats such as PDF, DOCX, XLS/XLSX, TXT, EPUB, as well as audio files in MP3 and WAV formats are supported. You can upload these files directly and open them in the viewer.

How do I upload files to "My Archive"? +

Click on "Select file" to choose a document or audio file from your device, then click on "Upload." After a successful upload, the file will appear in your library and can be opened directly.

Can I read or listen to saved documents directly? +

Yes, the integrated viewer lets you read documents directly in your browser, and you can even have them read aloud using the text-to-speech feature. Audio files can also be played directly in the viewer.

What are bookmarks and how do they work? +

Bookmarks are markers that allow you to save your current reading position within documents. You can open these bookmarks later to resume reading precisely from the saved spot.

How do I delete saved files or bookmarks? +

You can remove saved documents, audio files, and bookmarks from "My Library" at any time by clicking the delete icon (🗑️) and confirming the deletion.

What does the language setting do? +

The language setting allows you to define your preferred language, dialect, gender, and voice quality for the text-to-speech feature. You can save these settings permanently and adjust them at any time to ensure the best possible listening experience.

How can I select a language and voice? +

First, select your preferred language. Then, you can choose a specific dialect, the voice gender, and the desired quality. After that, various voices will become available, from which you can select and save your favorite.

Can I test the saved voices? +

Yes, you can listen to a preview of your selected voice anytime. Simply enter some text into the preview field and click the play button to instantly test the voice.

Can I delete saved voices again? +

Yes, you can delete saved voices anytime. Simply click on the "Delete" option next to the respective voice in your saved voices section and confirm the deletion.

General Questions
Can I upload all purchased e-books? +

Most e-books without technical copy protection ("DRM-free") can easily be used with TextSnapper. Books with watermarks are generally no problem. Unfortunately, uploading e-books with DRM won't work—so before purchasing, check if the book is DRM-free.

Are there limitations depending on the membership? +

Yes, the features of TextSnapper vary depending on the membership level. The free basic plan includes 10,000 credits and 5 image uploads per month. Can I cancel my membership at any time? +

Yes, you can cancel your membership at any time. After cancellation, your membership will remain active until the end of the already paid billing period and will automatically expire afterward without incurring further charges.

How long does a membership last? +

All memberships run monthly or annually by default and renew automatically until you actively cancel them. You can view and adjust the exact duration in your account settings.

How are the credits calculated? +

Credits depend on the voice quality used. Different credits are consumed per character:

  • Standard: 1 credit per character
  • WaveNet: 4 credits per character
  • Polyglot: 4 credits per character
  • Chirp/Chirp3: 4 credits per character
  • Neural2: 4 credits per character
  • News: 6 credits per character
  • Studio: 40 credits per character

The higher quality and more natural the voice, the more credits are used per character.
